Dear Conway Members
Your Tennis Club is supporting the newly-established Friends of Conway Recreation Ground. We’re working together with Enfield Council to restore the park and pond environment – aiming to make the space more attractive for local people – including Club Members – and wildlife.
The Friends Group has built three small nesting/roosting islands on the pond and plans a communal planting weekend on 12/13 March to plant the new islands, a ‘wild’ bank and an old shrub bed.
The Club has its usual practice sessions on the Saturday morning and an American Tournament on the Sunday from 10.30. Club members are invited and encouraged to play some tennis and bring suitable clothing to join the ‘big plant’. There will be work in the pond, on digging and clearing projects and planting donated trees. People can pitch in or simply support and take photos.
The Clubhouse will be open for rest and refreshments – edible contributions would be welcome both days.
Enfield Parks Dept has promised water plants and shrubs. And supporters can contribute native shrubs and seedlings to boost the stock. The focus is plants with berries or seedheads to attract birds and insects.
It will be a active, community weekend with, we hope, support from local Councillors and MPs. Fine weather will help, but the work will go on regardless! Join in and help improve the Club’s surroundings for the enjoyment of all.
